Haiku Deathmatches, 2006-2009

MC for the 2009 Haiku Deathmatch, in Geisha garb

I ran head-to head-haiku battles in Toronto (2006) and Vancouver (2008 & 2009-- as Alt Vancouver Poetry Slams).

Deathmatch? Yes. The losers of each round "committed seppuku." Good times!

I performed in Toronto, Vancouver, San Francisco, Chicago, New York, St. Louis, Halifax, Windsor, Salt Lake City, Bermuda, Austin, Ottawa, Burlington VT, and London UK. I did a poetry tour through Providence, RI, Boston, and Worcester MA. I was a fraction of a point away from being on the Toronto Slam Team 2007.

I've been published in many anthologies, and have self-published two chapbooks: "Broken Feathers" (2001) and "The Morbid Book of Haiku." (2006)

Pangea Day Vancouver, 2008

Logo for Pangea Day Vancouver, 2008

Created from TED Prize Winner Jehane Noujaim's vision, Pangea Day was a global event of films & live broadcast for peace -- to show the world through the eyes of many cultures. I was the event coordinator and co-organizer for the second largest screening in Vancouver. We had 111 attendees and we raised nearly $300 for the World Food Programme. The largest venue, which had nearly 300 in attendance, was inspired by our project and partnered with us.

Entrepreneur, 2003-2008

I was Canada's Stop Smoking Coach from 2003 - 2006. On top of my private coaching, I wrote two ebooks, was in 21 media spots across the country, and maintained a popular newsletter with over 700 readers.

My business naturally lead me into being a Virtual Assistant for Life Coaches, from 2007 - 2008.

WordPlay: Poetry/Music Fusion Playtime, 2004-2006

WordPlay Flyer

From Dec 2004 to Jan 2006, I ran a monthly open mic series in Toronto based on T. Paul's Thundering Word in Vancouver. Poets and musicians were encouraged to spontaneously collaborate. There were always two features -- one music and one spoken word.

From Feb 2006 - Feb 2010, Yehuda Fisher took the reins and ran the show -- renamed as WordJam. Great job, Yehuda!
